To create a new brand extension and sponsorship platform for a
leading youth publication.
“Sandlots” refer to any parcel of land young baseball players could
find in order to play some form of baseball (stickball, Wiffle Ball,
etc.). Kids could play 1-on-1, 5-on-4 are full squads on each side; it
was entirely up to their imaginations on what form of baseball they
would play.
The primary logo showcases the Sandlot name enclosed by an icon
denoting baseball’s special occasions: bunting. The brand identity
also includes enough area for a sponsor’s logo.
With the widespread sudoku phenomenon including young
children now, I created a baseball-themed version of the popular
game, where numbers are replaced by its position counterparts.
(KiDS ScoreCard sponsored the first Sandlot page, so I included the
company’s proprietary cartoon characters, the Recess Club, to help
answer the sudoku puzzle.)
